National Black Doll Museum
& Cultural Arts Center

The Doll E Daze project in conjunction with the City of Brockton is proposing the development of
the National Black Doll Museum and Cultural Arts Center of Brockton.
The United States lacks a major museum dedicated to the preservation of Black Dolls: heritage,
legacy and/or history of Black Dolls. There are several  museums ,libraries and cultural centers
throughout America who have some black dolls and who have had exhibits about black dolls
from time to time. The Philadelphia Doll Museum currently is the only doll museum in the country
whose mission is to preserve the history of black dolls.

The National Black Doll Museum  a 501(c)3 non profit institution will  create a  living history
museum of the legacy of black dolls and their heritage in America. This museum with its rich
heritage of approximately 5,000 dolls, will represent the largest public display of black dolls in
the world.  The museum will also house the one of a kind collection of “Urban dioramas”
created by Massachusetts’ artist, Deborah Cornin.

Since 2003, the Doll E. Daze project TM has conducted workshops and exhibited dolls in themed
vignettes to over 17,000 patrons in libraries, schools, museums and businesses. In 2008, the
first Black Doll Collectors Convention was held in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Not just a show but
three days filled with educational seminars and answers to questions sought by collectors and
the general public. Why aren't there more divers dolls on the market, who is listening to
consumer needs, who says Black dolls don't sell. Vendors ,collectors and consumers from
around the world  dispelled the myths of dolls being just playthings. In fact dolls are the first
introduction of diversity  to children.  The success of the convention  initiated the dialogue and
development for the National Black Doll Museum .

The architectural firm Map Lab of Boston  under the direction of David Silverman has captured
not only the vision but the essence of  the National Black Doll Museum and Cultural Arts Center
. This cultural complex will include a 7000 sq Ft of gallery space, classrooms and  working studio
space , a performance theatre, music recording , market place , international café and offices for
several arts organizations. In addition  rental housing for performers and artists will be on site
to provide an active and creative community to support the endeavors.

Funding for a project of this magnitude is substantial and will require the support of state,
federal, private corporations and more importantly the public. We will need to develop the
project in three phases. Phase one of the project is the acquisition and development of the
space ,Therefore  beginning February 1,2009 we will  launch a capital fund raising campaign
that will include ooak online doll auctions, e-store, and memberships.
